EDWARD BUNKER’S PATRIARCHAL BLESSING
A blessing given by John Smith, Patriarch, upon the head of Edward Bunker, son of Silas and Hannah, born August 1, 1822, Penobscott county, Atkinson, Maine.
Brother Edward, by the authority given me of Jesus Christ to bless the fatherless, I place my hands upon thy head in His name and seal upon thee a father’s blessing, even all the blessings of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that are scattered in the wilderness, even the Lamanites, the children of Joseph. In as much as the Lord has revealed unto us by the ministering of angels where the remnants of Joseph are and who they are and through the same power hath given the holy priesthood to the children of men calling upon them by His voice and Spirit to fulfill the covenants which were made by the Father and gather the remnant of Jacob and the dispersed of Judah and appointed to places where they are to be gathered and settled in a peaceable land: This is thy lot and station to hunt them out from the holes and cliffs of the rocks and from the mountains where they are hid and gather them as the Lord hath appointed. For this end the Lord hath called and clothed thee with power to do a great work in the last days to gather thousands and establish them in the cities of the saints and He will give thee power to do any miracle that is necessary to forward thy work and not an enemy shall ever prevail against thee and no power shall hinder thee.
Thou shalt have a numerous family and much riches even until thou art satisfied with favor, shall see Israel gathered in fullness and Zion established in peace! In as much as you abide faithful to the end of your days thou shalt inherit all of the blessings of the Redeemer’s Kingdom with thy companion and all thy father’s house for thou art of the house of Joseph.
