A very Merry Christmas

December 25, 1992

Dearest Grand and Great Grandchildren, Listen. .. do you hear it

We will all be celebrating the birthday of Jesus on December 25th. It is important that we make Jesus the center of our celebrating. We usually hear the Christmas story told. It reminds us that Jesus once was a little child. He came as a tiny baby, born in a stable and laid in a manger. A star shone brightly as a sign of His birth. Angels told shepherds where He could be found and that He truly is Christ the Lord. He did not lose His divinity when He was born. He was God in mortal birth. He is now our God, the Savior of all mankind who has made it possible for us to be redeemed from sin so we can be able to enter the presence of our Father in Heaven and become like Him. His death on the cross was the death of a God who had power not only to bring about the restoration and the reunion of His Spirit and body but He also made it possible that all people will be resurrected in a like manner.

Yes, we have reason to rejoice in the birth and the life of Jesus Christ. It is most important that we celebrate His birthday remember¬ing that He loves us and has prepared the way for us to become as God is. He has opened the door of membership in His Church through which we can participate in all of the laws and ordinances essential for our progress and preparation to attain unto eternal life. We should never forget that we have taken upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ in our baptism and at that time made a promise that we will do what He wants us to do.

We are very happy that our grandchildren and great grandchildren have parents who teach them the importance of their membership in the Lord’s Church and the sacredness of the promise made in baptism. We rejoice that our grand and great grandchildren know that it is very important to keep promises. Oh how we love each of you. We want you to love Jesus with all your hearts. You were sent here with great privileges and you are now preparing through all that you do and say for a work which will require the development of talents, gifts, powers and abilities that rise from divine guidance. He gives us that guidance by the power of the Holy Ghost as we seek it. He counsels us to pray, to read the scriptures for they contain His word, to attend all of our church meetings, to renew the promises made at baptism while partaking of the sacrament each Sunday, to listen to the authorities of the Church, teachers, speakers and parents. He wants us to avoid evil by keeping free from smoking, drinking, drugs and immoral behavior.

Jesus knows what is best for us and He beckons to each of us, “Come follow me”, let me be your friend, your counselor, your Savior. We want each of you to know that the most important consideration of our lives is the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe it is yours also, and because it is, this Christmas will be celebrated in a manner that will prove our love for the Lord. What we do with our lives is our gift to the Lord. Let us make it a gift of love.

With all of our love and a Merry Christmas

Your Grandpa and Grandma Bunker
