. YOUR TITLE “MOTHER” May 13, 1984

My dear wife and companion,

It is Mother’s Day and to many the title, “Mother,” may not conote the special place in the scheme of life that I would have it, but for the mother of my children it must signify the greatest adventure in the world. Imagine being a partner with God in the creation of a soul, the great work of uniting a spirit child of God with a physical body organized and prepared through motherhood.

It has been my privilege to be your companion in so great a work. Think of your taking that child of God and clothing him or her with a tabernacle of flesh and bones and then bringing that child up in the way of the Lord for a productive, good and happy life. Five times you went to the brink of death to add a soul to our family. But I do not measure your success in this very complex and painful task and work of creation, your success is seen most in your diligence over many years of teaching, tutoring, clothing, feeding, comforting and sacrificing to give them the quality of life that will make them forever ours. You have raised them in the ways of the Lord and given them a hope that they will be prepared to take their proper place in mortality and gain eternal life in immortality.

I am especially blessed because I am your husband and have had a small part to play in your great adventure. Even in the great responsibility of motherhood you have had the time to be a good wife and compainion. I rejoice with you in the creation of a home and family that has eternal perspectives. I am glad that you were not given to the kind of liberation that would take you from the sanctity of our home. You have worked very hard to make sure that our home and family came first. I like it that way because our family is our most important consideration. Our success in this is our passport to an exaltation in our Heavenly Father’s kingdom. God our Father, who gave us His spirit children wants us to return them to Him pure and perfect.

Yes, Motherhood is no small title. You have made the name “Mother” a position and calling of true greatness and for this honor you this day.

Your loving husband
